Brendan T. Smith, CPA, CFP®, MST
Brendan is a Connecticut native, born and raised on the shoreline. A Guilford High School graduate, Brendan went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Boston College. Upon graduating, he began his career as a Certified Public Accountant with Arthur Anderson.
Brendan has over thirty-six years of experience guiding clients to financial independence. His dedication to his clients is the foundation to his philosophy of financial advisement. As a fiduciary, he focuses on providing personal financial planning, and individualized tax and estate planning. Brendan believes that client engagement is critical to sustainable success in wealth creation and preservation. Throughout the years, Brendan has advised his clients through challenging economic cycles including: Tax cuts by the Reagan administration, the recession after the Kuwait Invasion in 1990, the tech stock bubble of 2000, and most recently the housing bubble burst in 2007.
Serving as Shoreline Financial Advisor’s Chief Compliance Officer, Brendan ensures that our clients and the firm are well-equipped for success.
Brendan and his wife, Susan, reside in Guilford and have two children, Sam and Emma. He enjoys spending his time outdoors, traveling, running road races, boating, and fishing on Long Island Sound. He and Patrick have summited 47 out of the 48 highest peaks in New Hampshire.
Patrick M. Smith, CFA, MSF
Patrick has been in the financial services industry since 1984 and a partner at Shoreline Financial Advisors since 2001. Prior to SFA, he was a Senior Vice President and portfolio manager at Pioneer Investments. Before Pioneer, Patrick was a Vice President and portfolio manager at Loomis, Sayles & Co, and he began his career as a securities analyst at Putnam Investments. He has appeared several times on CNBC as well as various public television programs to discuss global investment strategy and economics. He has been featured and/or quoted in USA Today, the Boston Globe, the Chicago Tribune, the Wall Street Journal, Kiplingers, Money, Financial Planning, Bloomberg, Financial World, and Pensions and Investments.
Education & Service
Patrick has a B.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and an M.S. in Finance from Boston College. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of CFA Institute and the New York Society of Security Analysts. He also serves on the Guilford Pension Committee. Patrick has been a four year recipient of the FIVE STAR Wealth Manager award for the years of 2016, 2015, 2014, and 2013.
Besides summiting 45 of the 48 highest peaks in New Hampshire with Brendan, Patrick enjoys sailing, long distance biking and traveling and cooking with his wife, Susanna. They have two children, Katie and Nathan.
Kristi provides operational support in areas of client service, new account processing, general accounting, fund transfers, accounts payable and special projects. She joined Shoreline Financial Advisors in 2008 and previously worked at Globe Pequot Press.
Kristi graduated from Katharine Gibbs Business School in 1997. She enjoys watching her two sons play sports, reading and sitting by the beach.
Stephanie Van Albert
Financial Advisor Associate
Stephanie graduated Magna Cum Laude from Quinnipiac University in 2018 with a B.S. in Finance and a minor in Computer Information Systems. While at Quinnipiac, she was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society and the Financial Management Association’s National Honor Society. Since joining SFA in June 2018, she has passed the Series 65 exam, which qualifies individuals to act as Investment Advisor Representatives. Stephanie has also completed Part 1 of the Enrolled Agent exam, a credential awarded by the IRS. She is planning to take the CFP examination in Fall 2019.
She was also a member of Quinnipiac’s Division 1 Acrobatics and Tumbling team. Before attending Quinnipiac University, Stephanie competed in trampoline and power tumbling, a branch of competitive gymnastics, for 12 years and coached part-time for 5 years. She enjoys spending time kayaking, paddle boarding, cooking, and traveling.
Client Service Representative
Born at Fort Hood, Christine spent her formative years in Texas as the child of a military family. Although this makes her a Texas native, she believes that they moved to Old Lyme, Connecticut early enough to consider the Connecticut shoreline her true home.
Christine joined Shoreline Financial Advisors in July 2019 as a Client Service Representative. Providing day-to-day client service support for the firm’s team of advisors, Christine works closely with clients and their investment custodians through a wide range of servicing needs. She also brings an abundance of knowledge in modern marketing, lending her experience to our team in website management, digital advertising and social media marketing.
Prior to joining Shoreline Financial Advisors, Christine worked as the office manager in a large orthodontic practice. During her 16 years in the field, she handled all client relationships, scheduling, accounting, and marketing.
Christine earned her bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Finance from Marist College. Christine is also studying for her Series 65, plans to pursue her CFP and transition to a financial advisor.
Christine’s leisure time is spent at playgrounds and museums with her husband, Brian, and two young sons, Grant and Gavin. She resides in Higganum, CT.
